The Divine Femininity of Trees
Symbolism, form, science, and continued experiments with AI image generation
Observable from last week, AI and the human form, specifically female, is tricky. Part of the challenge lies with the prompter and prompts, further complicated by software and various model limitations. Skipping to the side this week, is an exploration of trees.
Trees have long historical associations with Divine Femininity –cultural, symbolic, ecological, spiritual. Many, I’d wager most, cultures, including Norse, Greeks, Hindu, and Celtics, have goddesses associated with nature, fertility, and trees
Tress are connected protectors.
Brigid, a divinely feminine Irish triple goddess (!!!), often representing Maiden, Mother, and Crone, links to trees in many ways, and very specifically to both the Oak and magical Rowan or “witch tree” as shown in the two images below. While going through this exercise I noticed new aspects of potential “female” form and new ways to understand connectedness —the hard and soft, line and sphere, thick and thin, material.
Various indigenous traditions view trees as sacred beings with feminine qualities, including providing sustenance and shelter and connecting the physical and spiritual worlds. For the Anishinaabe people of the Great Lakes, my region, there’s the Birch tree, the Hindu and Goddess Parvati have the Peepal (or Ficus) tree, and the Maya of Central America have the Ceiba or Yaxche tree that connects the Heavens, the Earth, and the Underworld. Known as the Tree of Life, it is central to creation myths and viewed as a feminine symbol of fertility, growth, and protection.

Trees also represent interconnectedness, which is visually apparent and literal. Looking into the future, or then, now, trees as vehicle of the interconnected nature of divine femininity, create opportunity for technology and spiritual convergence. Imagine roots working within quantum fields to co-create reality, nurture growth, heal, and innovate across realms/time/entities.

And then there are the rabbits. Fertility!
Next up… a pivot. The poetry of prompts.
